Here are a couple of recent additions to our collection. We found some interesting information about these 2 items from Joe Fanning.

This Centennial bottle is obviously a remake of the original 1896 Centennial. The originals are VERY Rare and hard to find. We have only seen one in our 35 years of collecting. This Centennial was made in the mid to late 1950's. Very few were made. They were made with silver and gold lettering. This one has the gold lettering. They were made as displays for liquor stores and were never filled. They were shipped by rail in an old wooden box similar to an old Army foot locker. Included in the box was a Jack Daniel statue, some tall silver bottle holders, and several other items. All items were wrapped in burlap bags with Jack Daniel's embroidered on them. Again, these were sent to liquor stores as displays.

Joe Fanning can remember when he was in High School (he graduated in 1958 ), his father, who worked at the Distillery at the time, brought one of these boxes home. It had been damaged on the train and was shipped back to the Distillery. He can remember the excitement of opening the box with his father and seeing all the nice items in it. There were other items in the box, but he cannot remember what they were. This is how we dated the bottle and statue as being made in the mid to late 1950's.

The statue is very nice. It is heavy and has quiet a bit of detail. Dates and "90 Proof" and on the base. You cannot see it (I will try to get a better picture and post later), but in the statue's mouth is a small hole. The statue came with several sticks of sulfur. They were about the size of a pencil lead. You placed these in the statue's mouth, lit them with a match, and they blew smoke rings. I would think if someone had some of these sulfur sticks, they would be VERY RARE.

Here are pictures of the bottle.

They look fantastic Mike, we must have similar tastes as a Centennial is very high on my wanted list. ;)

btw - I believe there are actually three versions, Gold, Silver and Clear writing - the last one is extremely rare 8) The writing is embossed on the last one - check out Jeepee's site for a few pictures.

I believe you are right Rob. My mistake. I get excited and forget things. ;D

Just out of curiosity, how many collectors have one of these bottles? Joe does not know how many were made, but does say they are very rare.

This is an extract from Jeepee's site (really hope you don't mind buddy);

This Decanter/bottle was produced in the late 50's and early 60's as a display only bottle, this information came from the Head of the Jack Daniel's Research Department: . It never contained any whiskey or had a stopper. It was made to distribute to stores or bars as a display only. He said they only produced maybe a thousand bottles or so and they were extremely rare and hard to find. (Thanks to Maurizio Zavarise, Italie, for sharing this information).

Very nice items Mike, love the centennial. A friend nearby (no longer a collector) had all 3 which I saw, we always thought the embossed glass one was not original. ie a fake/replica/unlicenced - or whatever you wish to call it as it never had Jack Daniels signature on the bottom like the other 2.
Wish I had bought them when I was offered and taken out a bank loan for the "investment" ??)

Thanks Mike.

I think i have seen a statue like the one you have before, not sure who's collection it was in. May have been at last years BBQ.

I remember some of the others remarking on the hole in Jacks mouth.

Nice additions Mike. That centennial bottle is sharp.
It's probably on everybodys want list, I know it's on Darlene's.
