Found this on Ebay and had to say,, I have had a few 1895's in my time and this one looks good. but I question the mans description.
Is the design patented ????    Doubt the connection he makes between Jack and Hammel !!  What do you think ?????

Here's a rare early pre prohibition Jack Daniels patented square shape whiskey bottle from a Pittsburg wholesale liquor dealer! Although this bottle does not have JACK DANIEL emb in the glass, it has the unique patented paneled neck and shoulder exactly like Jack Daniels Old No.7 bottles....

J.M.HAMMEL & CO. WHOLESALE LIQUOR DEALERS 1213 CARSON ST. PITTSBURG,PA. (bold emb on slug plate front panel).....

Hand blown in mold.....tapered lip with ring (original cork still in neck).......square with "Jack Daniel" patented paneled neck, ring and scalloped panels on top of shoulder.....11"tall.....It has a hard to see 1/2"crack in base; a small 1/4"crack on side panel, along with a small surface ding near base. A pretty clean bottle that displays great.  I dont know the connection between Jack Daniel's Distillery and J.M.Hammel, but this square shape bottle was definitely patented by Jack Daniel in 1895. Since a design patent cannot be infringed upon for 14 years, this bottle, which is hand blown and was made between 1895-1908, must have been used for Jack Daniel Whiskey.  FREE POSTAGE ALWAYS...NEVER ANY HIDDEN FEES WITH OLE DIGGER DAVE

I don't believe there is any connection to Jack Daniels, many people use these square bottles at this time, the embossing proves this is Hammel and not Jack

Exactly what I thought too Max !!  This person has also listed a mini 1895 and claims it is a real JD as well ...  I believe he is very creative in his descriptions and misrepresenting the truth.   He is asking $95 for this one and even more for the mini !!!  I hope no one is fooled !!!

In addition I don't believe the design was patented as he claims

I have all two bottles on my wanted list and wondered me that nobody jump in in this auctions when the seller write from Jack Daniels and the same design and bla, bla, bla ...... He has a lot of bottles dig out and sell it for moderate prices, but the JD designed bottles he would like to sell for crazy prices :o

Very nice pre-prohibition bottle, but obviously not Jack Daniel's.
