Next Saturday, March 25, the historic home and 63 acres of land of Robert Lee Motlow will be offered at public auction, just outside of Lynchburg, in Mulberry, Tennessee.
The home was built in the 1840's by the Whitaker family, before the Civil War.
Robert (Bob) Motlow purchased the house in 1902.
Robert was a cousin of Lem Motlow and his wife was Hulda Daniel, niece of Jack Daniel, and the daughter of Wiley Butler Daniel, Jack Daniel's brother.
It is a beautiful, older, historic home.

On January 3, 1909, Hulda died, leaving Robert with 3 children to raise.
To make things worse, in October of 1909, a tornado struck the home and destroyed nearly all of the 2nd floor of the house.
The children were at their grandmothers at the time & were not harmed. Robert rode out the storm in a storm shelter next to the house.
Here are a few pictures from 1909 after the tornado.

Robert remarried & died in 1959 at the age of 95.
There have been 2 different owners of the house since then, and the heirs of the current owner is offering the house for sale.

The well house & original cistern.
A cistern is a funnel shaped structure that collects rain water & stores it.

Most of the land is fenced with these old rock walls that were built by slaves.

That is all.
