I have read a little about the new product, "UNCLE NEAREST 1856" whiskey. Their web site states that it is produced by a couple of active distilleries in TN.  Anyone have any more specific information?  The company is, or has introduced the new product in Portland,OR.  Seems an unusual place to premier a TN whiskey.

Thanks for your help

Tom

So glad you brought this up Tom, there has been a lot of talk about Nearest Green in recent months even with the rumours that the Jack Daniel Distillery were even looking at re-writing the book and naming him as the 1st Master Distiller (how will that work with all out Master Distiller bottles etc I don't know)

They are releasing a couple of different whiskies under Nearest's name, a 100 proof premium whiskey and a 90 proof "silver" premium whiskey both filtered through maple charcoal

Looks like the only places on earth selling it right now is right around Nashville TN and about a 20 mile radius.

I have not cracked it open yet. I was working about 20 hours a day for the last week because of the Eclipse. I will be tasting it soon and I'll let you know

I paid $49.99

I just opened it and enjoyed my first taste of Unce Nearest. First I want to say that I love that it has a cork instead of a screw open top. I love the sound of removing a cork

I probably am not the best person to review a whisky. I don't drink much but I enjoy what I drink. I definitively enjoyed this. The color is lighter than Black Label and it is definitely smoother. Reminded me of Gentleman Jack. Lots of vanilla.

It is a fine whisky, in my opinion. I don't think it will become my go to but it is definitely enjoyable.

I'm thinking this is going to be short lived, 49.99 is a high price for a new whiskey trying to make it in the competitive whiskey market.

I for one will now want two bottles, one to taste and one to collect
