Over the years, I have been asked many times if I knew who made the old, original Jack Daniel barrels & jugs.
To be honest, I do not. I have asked several of the older generation here in Lynchburg many times this question, and nobody knows.
I do know in the mid to late 1800's, there were many Distilleries here in Lynchburg, Moore, & Lincoln Counties. These Distilleries had to have barrels & jugs made somewhere & I think it was local. Also over the years, we have seen many different crock jugs from local Distilleries that no longer exist.
My search for who made these jugs is ongoing, but recently I found this picture of a family making barrels in the County Line Community here in Lynchburg. For those who don't know, County Line is where the Jimmy & Emily Bedford farm is located. I was told the old house in this picture is close to where the Bedford home now sets.
This is a nice old picture that shows at least some barrels were made here in Lynchburg. You can also see some barrels in the background.
